Project Underway
I don't really have a "before" shot, so this panorama will have to do. This room. Before our remodel 12 years ago, this little attic room was completely unfinished. It became a lot more useful as a finished (and insulated) room, but the sloping ceiling made it hard to maximize our use of it. We pretty much just had boxes in one layer on the floor.
Paint and Light
I painted the supports, but decided to leave the shelves unfinished (like the existing oak-veneer plywood floor). You can also see the low-voltage LED lights in action here. The room wasn't particularly well lit to begin with and I figured it would be almost impossible to see anything deep in under the shelves, so I installed LED strip lights along the back of the front shelf supports.
Power
The black transformer box for the low-voltage lighting is mounted to the wall just inside the door. The 120V side of the wiring was one of the most annoying parts of the project. Inside that bit of wall, there's a little bit of open space and a whole lot of studs. I'm not completely happy with the end result, but at least it's not too visible. As far as I can tell, it's completely up-to-code, too.
