This entire area was filled with glacier until quite recently. The glaciers began their advance during the "little ice age" about 400 years ago.

Angel glacier was named for the two wings that spread out from its body. Since it was named, its feet and half of its body has disappeared.

The trail ends at Cavell Lake at the base of the mountain. Cavell Glacier (across the lake) once merged with Angel glacier.
