The accompanying sign said: Ship master Clement Andersen was serving under King Christian 2 until the king was dethroned in 1523. In the following years Clement experienced a number of injustices which led him to start a riot in 1534. This rebellion was supported by peasants and townsmen in quite substantial numbers. The rebels ravaged most of Northern Jutland and reached Spøttrup Castle in the year 1534. An attempt was made by the rebels to set the castle on fire, but they were not successful and after a short siege, the rebels gave up and abandoned the place. Clement was captured and executed in 1536.
