The smaller stone is the runestone of Gorm, erected by Gorm The Old in memory of his wife Thyrve.
Jelling church is situated between a pair of mounds. Gorm was originally buried in one of them, but his remains were reburied under the church by his son Harald after Denmark converted to Christianity.
